For the first time in 30 years, Starrcade descended on the Greensboro Coliseum with a SmackDown Live Event. Jeff and Matt Hardy, who were backstage at the show, talked about Starrcade’s importance to them and to North Carolina. Jeff also gave an update on his shoulder injury saying that rehab is going good and he’s on the right track.
“So far so good, my physical therapist says it’s moving great,” Jeff said. “It doesn’t feel great, naturally it hurts, I can only do so much. But I’m on the right track, so, hopefully, after another month I’ll be able to lift a little weight and start building up my chest and my arms. Hopefully, by April, I’ll be good to go and actually get back in the ring and do what Jeff Hardy loves to do.”
WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, who defeated Harley Race in the very first Starrcade to capture his second of 16 World Championships, was also backstage at Saturday’s show and spoke on camera.
On returning to the Greensboro Coliseum, Flair had nothing but good things to say.
“Endless memories and all good,” Flair said. “[I’ve] been coming here since 1974, which seems like forever, nothing but great memories. One of the greatest venues anywhere in the country. In the heyday, we sold out every other Saturday night and, of course, every Thanksgiving.”
